Though Simcity games until Simcity 2013 did multiplayer in this way, so I'm sure the ability exists.This method however suffers from not being able to see your friends city, which I think is a major desire of wanting to play with friends. Though there wasn't really anything individual in Simcity 2000, like you couldn't follow a single car or sim or whatever, so it might be the later which is what happened. I never really paid much attention to how it worked though, like if you see a train leaving your city going to your neighbors city if it would actually show up in your neighbors game or if it just "told" your neighbors game that a train was sent there and that X people were on it and so on. This was already done all the way back with Simcity 2000 which was released 25 years ago, so technology has improved vastly since then. The easiest would be option 3, as the amount of information that has to be sent between games would be a lot less and much easier to handle. Want your country to be mining focused? Same deal. Your citizens that need to get higher education could simply go to a neighboring country to go to higher education. Don't want any high tech buildings and want your country to be a purely agriculture country, you could do that. Your students could commute to go to school, etc.ĭoing it the third way, could allow you to specialize your cities/country. So they could send you cargo, your business can sell them objects, your citizens could commute to work in a different city (or I guess we could call it country, since we can make multiple cities in the current game). There are three ways multiplayer in a game like Cities could work.ġ) Two (or more) players simply control the same city and build in the same city and everything.Ģ) You could have 2 players building the same city, but each player is only working in their own tile and can't do anything to the other tiles.ģ) The other players aren't visible at all in any way, but they control the neighboring cities, the ones that you get cargo from when you get cargo from outside the city.
